Phew!! That was a close one. Anyone who tried to access the website in the last 18 hours will have encountered problems viewing the site. In my haste to do some updates and add photos etc, I accidentally unplugged the computer and spilled coffee over the printer & the dog chewed the flex as well…. serious stuff!! But all hail our webman, Dave Hogan, he came to the rescue with a whole load of tools & other bits, together with a load of techi jargon and he got me out of the smelly stuff!! Maith an fearr, Dave.

Some photos of Tri Kingdom Come have been added to the gallery page. More to follow as they become available. If you have any photos you would like to be posted, please email them to Gerry @ glgeaney@eircom.net.

2nd AND FINAL STATEMENT FROM CHAIRMAN OF CLUB VIZ. TRALEE BAY SWIMMING CLUB PRESS ARTICLE

Dear Members,

Regarding the press article purportedly representing Tralee Bay Swimming Club, I have received information which satisfies me, as chairman of this club, that the views expressed were not representative of the members of the well-established and highly respected TBSC. The comments - to which the author was entitled - which were unfortunate and caused genuine outrage amongst our members were the views of one individual ; as such they are to be dismissed as of little or no significance and I propose that the matter be put aside.

Like all sporting organisations, Tralee Triathlon Club tries to apply the energy of its members constructively in the service of the well-being of our locality. Like the work of all sporting organisations, our work is  health-giving; it promotes the well-being of our local community through encouraging friendship and participation; it has many inherent social  and educational elements; it promotes all ability levels; it positively exploits our unique natural environment; it also promotes self-esteem among members – many of who need various forms support during the current recession that is hitting our locality particularly hard. In the case of our club we test members beyond commonly perceived limits of physical endurance and we are very lucky to have such a huge membership given the nature of our sport. As such we are particularly proud of our our success to date. That said, we have many lessons to learn and we can learn a lot from other sporting organisations – including Tralee Bay Swimming Club whose members are highly regarded amongst our membership.

For these reasons, on behalf of Tralee Triathlon Club, I will be extending the hand of friendship and goodwill to them and intend doing so in a formal letter from our club in due course. We welcome their members’ interest in our club and we invite them to participate in our winter and all-year round training. We also invite them to participate either as individuals or as part of relay teams in our inaugural triathlon Tri Kingdom Come on August 15th next in Banna.

Wishing you every good sporting wish,

Yours sincerely,

Mike O’Donnell, Chairman

STATEMENT FROM CHAIRMAN OF CLUB VIZ. TRALEE BAY SWIMMING CLUB ARTICLE IN OUTLOOK

Dear Members ,

I hope you are all well and enjoying your training.

Over the past day or so I have received many communications of various kinds from many members, each expressing dismay at an article purportedly written on behalf of Tralee Bay Swimming Club. This appeared in the Outlook and the Kerryman Notes.

As chairman of the club it is my responsibility to defend the interests of the club and its members. For this reason I am sure you will understand that it is necessary for me to respond to this article in the appropriate manner.

My view of this article, which is shared by all those who contacted me, is that it was in poor taste, displayed little respect for you, our members, and as such was unbecoming of a fellow sporting club.

I intend taking this matter up with the chairman of Tralee Bay Swimming Club in due course and reserve the right to address the matter through the appropriate means at our disposal.

In the mean time, please be assured that your efforts as members of our club are valued by one and all and please do not be side-tracked.

I wish you, our members, and all sporting people well.

Yours in Sport,

Mike O’Donnell,
Chairman,
Tralee Triathlon Club.

However, the complex are now offering the later slot of 8.30pm to 9.15pm (Friday evenings). No other slots available to book out pool. Possibility of getting lanes during public sessions only. If we were to get Instructor involved, it will prove more expensive as cost divided by smaller member numbers. Please email Gerry (glgeaney@eircom.net) if you are interested in signing up for this slot. As before, the cost will be €60 for 12 sessions.

News

BANNA FOR ‘TRI KINGDOM COME’
We are pleased to announce that Banna has been selected by the Triathlon Committee as the location for our inaugural triathlon ‘Tri Kingdom Come’. Banna is one of Ireland’s greatest na most beautiful natural amenities (it was last year included among the top 10 beaches in Ireland in a survey) and has been associated with club training since its inception e.g. running, St. Paddy’s Day, late Autumn midweek bricks.
WHY BANNA?
- a number of venues i.e. Castlegregory, Canal and Banna were explored owing to the relative unavailability of Fenit given RNLI situation principally.
- it was decided by vote to go for Banna for a variety of reasons – association of the club with Banna, proximity and natural beauty/amenity. We have since received the grateful support of the Banna Sea Rescue who will be of assistance on day and will benefit from some of the proceeds.
The event will comprise an open-water swim on the day followed by a cycle to and from Ballyheigue. A 5k run along the strand will follow.
Much work is afoot to ensure the success of the day so YOUR support as a club member is vital. Please support by registering and encouraging others to register too. You may participate as an individual or as a member of a relay team. The purpose of the event is that people enjoy participation on the day.
COMMUNICATION ISSUES: You will note that a questionnaire about our club traithlon event is being worked upon at the moment; your co-operation in this work will be valued. If you have any other matters requiring assistance which you would like to draw to the attention of the committee please email Race Director Bill Lalor at billlalor@yahoo.ie or Mike O’Donnell at mikodonnell@gmail. If you, as a club member have any skills or experience which you would like to offer please let us know and we can forward your communications if necessary to the particular person on the committee responsible.
LAUNCH NIGHT
In the mean time we are launching our event, ‘ThyKingdom Come’ at Manor West Hotel on Saturday, April 24th. This promises to be a wonderful social night for the club and further details surrounding the triathlon will be communicated to members at that event. (multiple apologies for the confusion surrounding dates here; completely my fault  - Mike).
Open-water Swimming
Members with a special interest in open-water swimming who might be able to lead or assist in open-water sessions might like to contact mikodonnell@gmail.com so that we can arrange sessions. Open-water sessions will obviously  help your participation in Tri Kingdom Come . (More anon.)

April 9th (headings:swimming/brick/run/safetyTri Kingdom Come preparations)
Swimming session in the pool tonight @ 7:45pm.  This is the FINAL session of this block.
Brick Session tomorrow (Saturday) 8.30 am (as usual) from Adam’s Garage to and from Castleisland.
Please note the following:
Safety is the primary concern of the club. If you are participating in authorised club training (Fri swimming; Sat + Wed Bricks; Tue/Thurs and Sun running you are covered under the club insurance policy. If you participate in your own training which is not authorised by the club, you are NOT insured. If you are NOT a member you are NOT insured. Non-members are not permitted to participate in club training activities.
Members are reminded to take extra care while using their bicycles. We have received a number of reports of accidents and near accidents over the winter and in recent days. For instance one member was knocked off a bike in Castleisland by a vehicle that did not stop. Two members were verynearly struck from behind by a passing vehicle last Sunday morning on the Fenit-Tralee road. Members should have no hesitation in reporting incidents to the Gardaí at 066 7122022. Ensure that you ALWAYS wear a helmet, wear hi-viz gear if possible, avoid using ipods etc and obey the the rules of the road at all times. Do not assume that other road-users will be mindful of your presence on the road so be extra-vigilant when biking.
The launch of our August 15th Tri Kingdom Come (our inaugural triathlon) will take place on Saturday, April 24th (apologies for earlier confusion). This should be a great event and a great night out for our club members. Thanks to all our members who have signed up. Please spread the word as our club tri needs everyone’s support to ensure its success. Please lend a hand to committee members who are working very hard in various ways for all our benefits. These are volunteers who are doing this in their own time for no reward. They are engaged in many meetings, appointments and communications via emails and calls behind the scenes – so well done to each -  Alison, Bill,  Dave, Fergus,Gerry,Lucy, Martin, Milosz and Rosa for all your hard work. They are receiving great co-operation from many other outside parties with whom they are in contact. They need YOUR support! If you have not signed up, please do so….and spread the word.
