If you are new to the club but haven’t ventured out on a club spin yet here is your chance to ease yourself in gently to the world of the Monday evening spin. The Monday spin will travel the Tri Kingdom Come Course over the next 4 weeks from O’Donnells in Mounthawk to Fenit and back (20Km). This session will focus on completing the distance and is an opportunity to pick up hints and tips about triathlon as well as getting to know other club members.
Each spin will start at the usual time, 7pm in O’Donnells Carpark, beside pharmacy for the next 4 Monday’s. We will stop in Fenit for Coffee & cake in Mike’s café.
The focus of the spins is to enable you to develop the basic confidence and competence on a bike and in a group to enable you to progress from there. Bring whatever bike you have or can borrow. Your bike must be in good working order and you need spare tubes, a pump and appropriate clothing, and most important, a helmet (no helmet – no spin!).

What a Weekend of Racing (Jun 14)
What we Sive, Schull, the Dingle Adventure Race and the Emergency Services Charity Cycle all happening last weekend it was great to see Tralee Triathlon Club well represented across all 4 events. There were some terrific personal performances with Trish Mcmahon coming 2nd in Sive, a 2nd place finish for Milosz in Dingle having battle snow and sunburn with Dave and Fergus claiming the 2nd place spot in Schull despite being led astray the night before they may have won the feckin thing!. There were some great triumphs in Sive with a number of TTC members including Derek McCarthy (13th), Billy McSweeney (14th), Joe O’Connor 16th amd Pio Boyle (19th) putting in some fine performances with Seamus Hoare in 44th position with a time of 1hr 22 mins – a fantastic result! PHA Circuit Training Instructional Video Courtesy of Nisus Fitness (Feb 24)
Whether you’ve been attending the Monday night circuit training at Nisus Fitness or not, you’ll benefit from this free instructional video of the excercise routine we follow. By alternating upper body with lower body movements you’ll get your heart and body working harder. Prepare to sweat with this low volume high intensity routine. Research has shown improved performance with one-thrid volume of traditional high volume low intensity endurance training. Remember 14-16 reps of each excercise and don’t forget to stretch and yazoo afterwards. Enjoy!

Custom Bike Fitting Workshop postponed until Thurs 10th March (Feb 22)
Our bike fitting expert unfortunately cannot make this Thursday’s talk session (Feb 24) but has confirmed that on March 10th @7pm at Manor West Hotel he will be on hand to deliver this most beneficial workshop. Michael has asked that for those attending to bring their bike along on the night to benefit from a free customised fitting. The benefits of a “dialled in” fit cannot be overestimated, you’ll enjoy efficient power transfer to the ground and enhanced aerodynamic efficiency, as well as fewer pains in your back, neck, and hands. Your elusive “all day position” on the bike is just one fit session away. Remember 10th March 7pm & bring your bike!
Don’t forget to Yazoo!! (Feb 16)
17 abled bodies togged out for Monday’s session. Great to see so many new faces. You may be hurting but that’s to be expected from your first session. We’ve all been there. The good news is you’ll soon get over the body shock and recovery time post workout will reduce as your body adapts. I know I certainly felt less sore after the 2nd session. Just remember it’s in recovery that your muscles repair themselves, so don’t forget to kickstart that process by downing a bottle of Yazoo (milk drink) within 20mins of your workout to get maximum nutritional uptake and benefit. Yazoo as advocated by Joe is an affordable milk drink that has the right combo of protein to carbs (1:3) that your body needs to repair.

Great opportunity to build up their endurance gradually at a great location.
Top 5 Reasons to Circuit Train with TTC @ Nisus Fitness (Feb 10)
- Peripheral Heart Action training (PHA for short) is a fast & efficient way for you to burn fat and gain muscle – so you get in shape faster!!
- Put less strain on your body pre-season with low volume high intensity triathlon specifc movements
- Correct your biomechancial weaknesses, and stay stronger for longer come race time
- Increase your flexibility, help avoid injury and maintain your form all season long
- Plus it is fun to do, and you’ll meet new friends
Monday Night’s (8pm -9.30pm) at Nisus Fitness we use a cricuit training system called Peripheral Heart Action training (PHA for short). By alternating between upper body and lower body exercises, your cardiovascular system which consists of your heart, lungs and blood vessels, has to work extra hard to divert blood to your working muscles. This essentially means that PHA training is a combination of weight training and cardio which results in a far greater energy expenditure per workout. For a nominal fee of €5 per session per member you’ll benefit from a 90min coached session. To find Nisus Fitness on Google Maps, Click Here.

Well done to Milosz, Fergus, Lorraine andJoanne for completing the 42.2KM required to finish the 31st Lifestyle Sports-Adidas Dublin City Marathon on Monday. Yet another example of the ability, potential and diversity that exists within our club. Their finishing times were as follows:

An all the more exceptional result when you consider this middle distance event consisted of a 1900m swim, 90k cycle and 21k run. But all hail our webman, Dave Hogan, he came to the rescue with a whole load of tools & other bits, together with a load of techi jargon and he got me out of the smelly stuff!! Maith an fearr, Dave.

The eighth annual Lost Sheep middle distance triathlon was held on Saturday September 11th in Kenmare, County Kerry. The highly popular event proved a great draw once again with a field of 300 triathletes contesting. Bryan Keane was back in Kenmareto take the honours. Eric Wolfe took second place from Peter Kern who was third. Our very own Milosz Wojcik finished 15th overall.A Fantastic result to crown his first season as a triathlete. An all the more exceptional result when you consider this middle distance event consisted of a 1900m swim, 90k cycle and 21k run. Congratulation also to Fergus McCarthy and Colm Nagle for posting equally impressive times despite by all accounts was a very trying a testing swim, due to a turning tide andheavy currents at the bridge. Full race results can be found by clicking here.
Best of luck to all club members taking part in the Lost Sheep Half Ironman Triathlon in Kenmare on Saturday. There is a good gang of support travelling also, so best of luck to all.

Phew!! That was a close one. Anyone who tried to access the website in the last 18 hours will have encountered problems viewing the site. In my haste to do some updates and add photos etc, I accidentally unplugged the computer and spilled coffee over the printer & the dog chewed the flex as well…. serious stuff!! But all hail our webman, Dave Hogan, he came to the rescue with a whole load of tools & other bits, together with a load of techi jargon and he got me out of the smelly stuff!! Maith an fearr, Dave.
Some photos of Tri Kingdom Come have been added to the gallery page. More to follow as they become available. If you have any photos you would like to be posted, please email them to Gerry @ glgeaney@eircom.net.
